TYPES OF SENTENCES


Types of Sentences
I.             Simple sentence ( Kalimat sederhana) ( S )
It is the sentence that has only one Main Clause  ( MC ) or Independent Clause. It contains a subject and a verb that express a complete thought. As it can express a complete thought, the sentence can stand by itself ( it can stand alone). An independent clause (Main Clause) is formed with
Subject + verb  ( + Complement)
Students normally spend four hours in college
I will declare my major now
I may change my major later
II.           Compound Sentence ( Kalimat majemuk )  ( C )
It is the sentence with two or more Main Clauses ( Independent Clauses) without Sub(ordinate) Clause ( Dependent Clause = Anak kalimat). The two main clauses are joined together with the following group of connectors.

Ex:
Using FAN BOYS
1.       My brother is a college student, and my sister is a college student ,too.
2.     I have never tasted such a delicious meal, nor have I tasted such a spicy food.
3.     I hate staying up late, but he does.
4.     You must study for tomorrow, or you won’t be able to do the test well.
Using Adverbial Conjunction.

1.       I don’t feel goo today; nevertheless, I must go to College for a class.

III.          Complex Sentence   ( CX )
Complex sentence is the sentence with One main Clause and one or several Sub Clause ( dependent clause).
Sub Clause can be divided into 3 types, namely; Adverbial Clause, Adjective Clause, and Noun Clause.
Sub Clause cannot stand by itself because it doesn’t express a complete thought. It is there in the sentence to give further information about something or someone in the main Clause.
ADVERBIAL CLAUSE
Adverbial Clause is the sub clause that is needed to modify or to give situation to the main Clause. Adverbial Clause always begins with connectors that can be grouped as follows:

EX:
a.     When I was on line last night, suddenly I got an incoming call from someone.
b.     I got a call from someone last night when I was on line with my friend.
